Waste Reduction
GCA is working to reduce waste in the environment by:
helping the town enact a plastic ordinance banning single-use plastics.
encouraging the Town to change the thickness of single-use plastic bags covered by the ordinance to prevent certain businesses from working around the law.
advocating for a 10-cent paper bag fee and encourage shoppers to bring their own bags.
promoting sensible consumption such as using both sides of a sheet of paper, using ceramic mugs instead of disposable cups, or declining a straw.
educating the community (Athletic Fields Task Force, Town Council, RTM and Board of Education) on the environmental and health problems associated with synthetic turf athletic fields.
working with SCRRRA to lay the groundwork for future industrial composting and educating the public about the benefits of composting at home.
