January 2, 2025 Click HERE for a link to GCA’s Alert on how Groton’s Town Council recently nixed the reappointment of the Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman, Jeffrey Pritchard, without even a vote. GCA protested the underhanded maneuver by the council in a letter to the editor. We are concerned that this is the beginning of an effort to alter the makeup of the P & Z Commission to be biased toward big development projects in Groton, without balanced regard for the environment. On January 6th we also sent out a “friendly reminder” Alert.

Once every ten years all towns in Connecticut are required to update their Plan of Conservation and Development (POCD), a long-range plan (renamed Groton 2035) to achieve key town goals over ten years. We ask you, citizens of Groton who care about our environment, to inform the town about your key priorities by filling out the Town survey.

February 29, 2024 Click HERE for GCA’s Alert on the Connecticut General Assembly’s Transportation Committee Public Hearing on Senate Bill 277: An Act Restoring Services on the Shore Line East Rail Line. Our efforts to expand SLE service were handed a disappointing setback when the 2023-24 CT state budget included a huge reduction to 40% below pre-COVID funding levels for SLE service from New Haven to New London. If passed, this legislation will restore service to pre-COVID levels, alleviate the heavy traffic on I-95 and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
